Women Lifting Women into the Fly Fishing Industry

by Robin Schmidt

Kaitlin Boyer and I have two very different stories to tell about our journeys into the world and industry of fly fishing. We both graduated from Colorado Mountain College’s Professional Fly Fishing Guide program and now our paths have converged upon a shared vision – more women working in the fly fishing industry!

See the article in Orvis News about our initiative. Also, check out our story in DUN Magazine.

Kaitlin and I helped found a series of scholarship opportunities for women entering the guide program at CMC. The CMC Foundation, in collaboration with Orvis 50/50 On the Water, will be awarding an incredible gear donation to two lucky ladies who attend the 2019 session of the CMC guide program. In addition, the foundation has added the Professional Fly Fishing Tuition Scholarship for Women.   We need all the help we can get funding the tuition scholarship in time for the 2019 session! We are also seeking ongoing funding sources and grant opportunities for 2020 and beyond. Please consider supporting this amazing opportunity to get more women working in the fly fishing industry.

My hope is that especially ladies already working as guides, retail shop owners, guide service providers and fly fishing business leaders will feel inspired, as we do, to lift up and support a few women into this industry we love. Please join us on this mission by donating. Alternatively, join River Betties in holding fund raising events of your own with proceeds going directly to the scholarship fund! Have other ideas? Please contact me should you desire to join us in making a difference. How amazing would it be for all of us to come together as women lifting women into the world and industry of fly fishing?
